Texas Charter School Plans $34 Million Expansion To Add Middle and High School Campus

Texas Charter School Plans $34 Million Expansion

Harmony Science Academy Bridgeland, located in Cypress, Texas, is going to establish a middle and high school campus that will cost approximately $34 million. The proposed opening of the facility is slated to happen in 2028-29. This will provide an opportunity for students to acquire high school education.

This expansion brings with it an additional facility with a size of 81,000 square feet located right adjacent to the existing elementary school campus along Creekland Village Drive, located in the area to the west of the Grand Parkway. This campus shall be a two-story structure with amenities for the classrooms and the athletic activities of the students, such as the gymnasium, basketball courts, and soccer fields.

According to school authorities, the new school will represent the second phase of development in the Bridgeland area within the Harmony school jurisdiction after the opening of the current elementary school back in August. The construction of the school will commence in August 2026. Finances will be provided through school bonds as well as foundation financing.

Harmony Science Academy Bridgeland serves approximately 650 students in prekindergarten through the sixth grade. In the proposed development of the middle and high school campus, the targeted population to be served will be around 850 students who will get the complete K-12 experience.

This is a trend that is reflective of a larger one in this region, in which families have been increasingly turning to alternatives to traditional public schooling. Charter schools and private schools have proved attractive to some students who might otherwise be going to school in this district.

Supporter feels that these schools are capable of offering specialized programs and smaller class sizes, while its critics feel that it has the ability to affect the budget due to its rapid growing nature. In Cypress, Texas, and its Cy-Fair area, there has been an increasing interest in charter schools.

Harmony Public Schools, the group of schools that owns the Bridgeland campus, has over 60 campuses in the state of Texas. This group of schools focuses on STEM and college preparatory programs. A member of the management stated that the new campus will support extracurricular activities.

With the construction set to happen in the latter part of the year, the district as well as the community has their eyes on how the expanded campus would be of benefit to the students in the pursuit of its targeted opening in the year 2028.
