Airtel Money Begins Conditional London Trading at $7 Billion Valuation

Airtel Money began conditional trading on the London Stock Exchange on October 10, 2026, at an implied valuation of £5.3 billion (approximately $7 billion). The company’s shares were priced at £1.96 each, with unconditional trading scheduled to begin on October 14.

The listing gives public-market investors an opportunity to invest in Airtel Money, the digital financial services business of Airtel Africa, which operates across African markets.

The initial public offering (IPO) attracted demand several times greater than the number of shares available, reflecting investor interest in Africa’s expanding digital payments sector.

Airtel Africa, which is majority-owned by India’s Bharti Enterprises, intends to remain a long-term shareholder in the business. The offer does not involve Airtel Africa selling its existing stake, apart from any shares that may be sold under the over-allotment option.

“This is a landmark moment for Airtel Money,” chief executive Ian Ferrao said, describing the London listing as an important new chapter for the business and reflecting the opportunities ahead.

The offer comprises 270 million existing shares. Mastercard Asia/Pacific Pte Ltd is making up to an additional 27 million shares available through an over-allotment option. If exercised in full, the offer would be valued at approximately £582 million, representing about 11% of Airtel Money’s share capital at admission.

The company’s issued share capital following admission is expected to total 2.7 billion shares.

Because the IPO primarily involves existing shareholders selling their holdings, Airtel Money will not receive fresh equity capital from the offer itself. Instead, the deal gives money to people who are selling their shares. It also sets a value for the company in the market.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has been given 34.29 million shares for £67.2 million. This meets the promise the IFC made under the investment deal.

The offer was available to qualified institutional buyers in the United States and institutional investors in the United Kingdom and other international markets, subject to applicable securities regulations. Eligible UK retail investors could also apply through participating investment platforms, brokers and wealth managers. Eight million of the 270 million shares offered have been allocated to retail investors.

Ferrao said the company aims to build a leading digital financial services platform across Africa, connecting more individuals and businesses to the formal financial system. The company also acknowledged the contributions of its customers, employees, agents, partners, governments and central banks.
