Himachal Pradesh restores affiliation of 292 schools after formalities completed

The state government of Himachal Pradesh reinstated the affiliation of 292 institutions whose connection with the Himachal Pradesh School Education Board (HP Board) had been temporarily suspended.
According to the state’s Education Minister Rohit Thakur, the suspension was not a revocation. It followed non-completion of some required formalities. The schools have now cleared those formalities, leading to the restoration of affiliation.
In parallel, the state has begun the process to affiliate around 100 government senior secondary schools with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). So far 36 government schools have secured CBSE affiliation; many more are in the pipeline.
The minister also announced plans to upgrade some HP-Board schools into “centres of excellence.” In addition, the state intends to launch a series of boarding-style schools named Rajiv Gandhi Day Boarding Schools to deliver what he described as a student-centred, quality-based education system.
Students enrolled in these schools will continue to get free uniforms, books and other facilities as before. The government says this dual-track approachm retaining HP Board while expanding CBSE, aims to ensure choices for parents and curb undue advantage of private schools.
What this really means is a correction rather than punishment. The 292 institutions had only been suspended temporarily; now with paperwork sorted, they resume formal status. At the same time, the government is strengthening public-school offerings through CBSE affiliation and better infrastructure under “centres of excellence” and day-boarding schools.
