HKU and Takatuf Oman Sign

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Takatuf Oman’s Oman Scholars Programme signed a memorandum of understanding on January 21 in Muscat. The agreement covers the next five years and provides Omani students with increased study opportunities at HKU. The funding program provides financial support to Omani students who meet the eligibility requirements and gain admission to undergraduate programs at HKU.

The funding package provides financial assistance for both tuition expenses and essential living expenses during their time in Hong Kong. The organization aims to increase international educational access for Omani students by establishing more pathways which enable them to study abroad.

The signing was led by Mr Ibrahim Al Harthi, Chief Executive Officer of Takatuf Oman, and Professor Bennett Yim, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and International Student Exchange at HKU. Both leaders described the partnership as an investment in students and in deeper ties between their institutions.

HKU already established other partnerships in the Middle East in the same week, showing its intent to build a global network of academic connections. The academic institutions established formal partnerships with both the Qatar Foundation for Education and Science and Community Development and the Qatar Investment Authority.

The Memorandum of Understanding contains a crucial element which establishes cooperation between HKU and its Academy for the Talented. The programme provides exceptional Omani high school students with enrichment opportunities together with specialized training for their undergraduate studies.

The Oman Scholars Programme will refer to its participants as HKU Oman Scholars. The title acknowledges both the support they receive and the prestige of their academic path.

The institutions said the partnership is more than a funding arrangement. The institutions plan to use the partnership for both cultural and academic exchange purposes. The two parties expect students to acquire new capabilities through their experiences which will assist in building Oman’s future.

The agreement creates more international study opportunities for young Omanis while establishing HKU connections with education officials in the Middle East. The agreement contains financial and academic support which will create opportunities for numerous students who will begin their studies in 2026.
